Description

‘Ellis Island’ is another work by Brazilian artist and muralist Eduardo Kobra in New York. The work is on the facade of the City-As-School, a public school located in the West Village, in Manhattan. A relevant curiosity for the world of street art: there he studied the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), one of the greatest exponents of the New York graffiti scene.

'Ellis Island' features five faces of different ethnicities, a reference to the millions of people who, for different reasons and causes, leave their homelands in search of better living conditions in other countries. “And, as we know, historically New York has always been a place that welcomed immigrants from all over the world”, comments Kobra.

At 800 square meters, this panel is the largest of the entire 'Colors for Freedom' series, which Kobra held in New York in the second half of 2018.
