About
The Garage is a contemporary art gallery located in a 17th century carriage house in the canals of Amsterdam. We present a programme of high-end, low-key exhibitions with provocative and cutting edge contemporary artists from across the globe. Traversing medium-specificity and genre, we focus on artists who push the boundaries of contemporary image-making culture, whether through painting, installation, sculpture, photography or print.
Having a love of art and working with artists for years Mark Chalmers, Executive Creative Director of VICE and founder of the internationally lauded creative mavericks network Creative Social, founded The Garage in 2004 as a place to collaborate with artists, and support and share their work.
Beginning as 1 part gallery and 1 part creative refuge, The Garage started as a place where artists could stay while in Amsterdam, create work on the streets and indoors, connect with other artists and then exhibit and sell their work to fund the trip. Many note The Garage as a breeding ground, and a passage for some of the great names of today including friends such as Faile, Ludo, Eine, Parra, Craig Redman, Pryce Lee and Banksy.
Today we maintain a programme of exhibitions dedicated to showcasing top talent in contemporary and urban art and continue to play host to the creative adventures of our visiting artists through invitation to our studio space.
In addition to our roster of represented artists, we have a vast network of artists, galleries, dealers and collectors. Having built these trusted relationships over years, we’re able to quickly attend to specific artwork requests from clients. We also work internationally with our artists to curate, commission, manage and produce public art projects and collaborations with global brands such as Converse, Google and Heineken.
